Let me start by saying that I promised not to write about Lady Gaga again for a while. I was doing good with my commitment… until “dhugs” decides to send me an e-mail late Wednesday evening… a startling revelation… LADY GAGA IS THE SPOKESWOMAN FOR ABSTINENCE.

Whoa Nillie, Whoa… rein in your pack animal and stop him right in his tracks, Whoaaaa now!!! Those of you in the fan club keep your pheromones in check, Lady Gaga’s taking a stand for the big A word.

My first thought: Ok, come on “dhugs,” you’re joshin’ me, right? She’s not REALLY on the A-team, is she? Wow, maybe deep down she’s really a moral Christian girl?

So I looked it up, and sure enough, that’s what Lady Gaga stated recently: She’s supporting and a spokeswoman for the concept… but there’s a catch: She’s got a new definition for the word.

Here’s what I found out:

Lady Gaga had an interview with Benji Wilson of the UK’s Daily Mail. In the interview, she states: “I can’t believe I’m saying this – don’t have sex. I’m single right now and I’ve chosen to be single because I don’t have the time to get to know anybody. So it’s OK not to have sex, it’s OK to get to know people. I’m celibate, celibacy’s fine.” Then goes on to say “Something I do want to celebrate with my fans is that it’s OK to be whomever it is that you want to be. You don’t have to have sex to feel good about yourself, and if you’re not ready, don’t do it. And if you are ready, there are free condoms given away at my concerts when you’re leaving!”

Not wanting to get into the abstinence vs. celibacy thing here, but basically abstinence is the more relaxed of the two.

It sounds to me like this is more of a temporary condition for Lady G than using the concept for it’s intended purpose.

If you read the Stuff Christian’s Like blog there’s a similar notion, called The Justin Bieber Effect. I’m calling this The Lady Gaga Corollary: Taking a Christian word or concept, and trying to bend it to make it work in either the definition that one would like for it to be, or trying to make a Christian concept align with the current cultural trend.

Twisted.
