Courage in defense of a noble cause… that would be Valor.
I read more definitions of Valor… boldness in facing great danger was a memorable one…
boldness…
for a good, worthy cause…
So I saw the movie Act of Valor this weekend. I really liked it.
Near the end of the movie an inspiring quotation was voiced…
it comes from Tecumseh, a Native American warrior and hero…
“So live your life so the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their views, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or sign of salute when meeting or passing a stranger if in a lonely place. Show respect to all people, but grovel to none. When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life and strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself. Touch not the poisonous firewater that makes wise ones turn to fools and robs them of their visions. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.”
When I heard it I had to read it…
when I read it I wanted more…
the words rang in my ears… live… life… heart… respect… love… service… give… give thanks… light… strength… joy…
going home…
Valor… inspired to more goodness!
Do you enjoy going to the movies? Any good ones that you’ve seen recently?
Great post, Chris! I sent hubby and son to see Act of Valor as a guy thing to do. I’ll catch it when it comes to DVD. Soon, I hope.
The quote was awesome, especially: If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies with yourself.
Yep. It’s sometimes hard to see but once you get going in the counting, God heaps blessings on us in such enormous volume, it’s amazing we can even move for the breadth of it.
humbling… we have so very much to be thankful for!
P.S. I’ve been thinking about your post all morning. It occurs to me that we writers need to apply the title of your post too. It takes courage to write the words and stories that need to be written. But if they are worthy, they too are a noble cause and worthy of the courage needed to tell them.
Amen, so very true Carol, thanks for your thoughts!
This sounds like a great movie. My wife and I just say, This Means War, which was a great movie.
Chris, I do enjoy going to the movies. And this is one of them that my wife and I would like to see.
