Do you dream a lot? It seems to me like I have lots of dreams… not just the daydreams silly… I’m writing today about the ones that come at night. Lately I’ve been on a string of really awesome dreams. That’s sweet!
However, one night recently I had a bad one… really random and out of nowhere. This one really left me wondering…
Why?
I do believe we receive messages from God in our dreams… and that we receive messages from the evil one as well. How to know the difference?
The Bible is chock full of examples of people who received instruction from God in their dreams, here’s one…
Joseph’s Sweetest Dream: An angle came to Joseph in a dream and said:
“Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:20
Joseph’s reaction?
He did what the Lord commanded… and, thankfully, the rest is history!
How do I know these dreams from the Lord, and how do I tell them from the ones that may just be random dreams… or those from the dark side?
- The evil one thrives on inciting irrational fear. The harder that you work for God, the more effort the devil will put into derailing your efforts.
- Intuition. Insight. Perception. Wisdom. If I’m patient and paying attention to the world around me there will generally be other clear signals that help me discern the meaning of the dream, and how to apply it (and any other situation) to God’s glory.
- Noteworthy: I have a pretty active imagination so I know some of my dreams are just fun. Goofy… Nice… and Sweet!
Still in doubt? Pray it out! The Holy Spirit will lead you, as He did with Joseph’s Sweetest Dream, in His perfect time and way.
Has God ever sent you a message in a dream that you can share?
I don’t think so…maybe…hmmm…
My mom always says that when you dream dark waters…not a good sign…death is near…
and if you dream that your teeth fall out…that’s a good thing…long life! LOL…
I really read to much into my dreams…i usally dream about what I last saw on tv that night…
Maybe….just maybe…that is God’s way of telling me…Arny, maybe you should read my word before bed…imagine what you could dream then!!!!
i think sometimes i read too much into mine too Arny… did you ever wake up from a dream laughing? it happened to me… once… i’m still upset because i can’t remember that dream… not fair 🙂
I had a dream the other night that i had a skunk-stripe of gray hair right down the middle of my head. Does that somehow mean i’m becoming wise with age?
you’re correct Christine, skunks are known for their… wisdom… lol… just kidding… maybe the skunk dream was just in the goofy fun category!
I have never received a dream from God, at least not that I can remember.
Growing up it always seemed like it would be an awesome event. Looking through the bible though, it seems it might be more scary than awesome.
i think Moses must have had those days when he looked up and asked… “why me?”
My goodness, yes! In fact, I just commented on your “Ping” post that I get my best writing ideas when I’m lying down. In fact, I get terrific book ideas when I’m sleeping and I totally think (some of them) are from God!
Great post,, Chris.
