Donald Miller’s book is actually titled “Searching For God Knows What”. I enjoy his writing style – witty, poignant and articulate. Most of all, he confidently is willing to expose his own weaknesses. When once asked “why did you write this book?” Miller answered “I am broken, I like to write, but basically, subconsciously, I just want people to like me.” And so it is since the fall of man, when Adam and Eve sinned, eating of the tree of good and evil. “Searching For God Knows What” is a refreshing story of Miller’s ideas of what faith is all about.

Miller states “what we really need is God. What we really need is somebody who loves us so much we don’t worry about death, about our hair thinning, about other drivers pulling in front of us on the road, about whether people are poor or rich, good-looking or ugly, about whether we feel lonely, or about whether or not we are wearing clothes. We need this; we need this so we can love other people purely and not for selfish gain, we need this so we can see everybody as equals, we need this so our relationships can be sincere, we need this so we can stop kicking ourselves around, we need this so we can loose all self-awareness and find ourselves for the first time not by realizing some dream, but by being told who we are by the only being who has the authority to know, and by that I mean the Creator.” Sweet!! I want some more of that God stuff… and the kind of faith Miller obviously has in his heart and writes about with so much zeal.

Miller has some awesome analogies and theories in this book, including his Genesis Theory on the human personality, a brilliant idea that he invites us to expand upon. More on this and his fine work await you…

Here’s my two cents worth on:

Being Naked: We were made without clothes for a reason, and at the very least we should be able to sleep in the raw (clothes are just minutia at night!)

Surviving in the Lifeboat: If you’re going to start a fire I’ll be the first to volunteer to jump out of the lifeboat (i.e., I’m not afraid of the ocean, God’s on my side… think Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego – the Three Faithful Men and the Fiery Furnace)… or… I’ll never even make it to the lifeboat as I blew off the muster drill.

What are your thoughts on being naked, or on surviving in the lifeboat?

The post Theories on Being Naked and Surviving in a Lifeboat first appeared on I'm Just Thinkin'.

The post Theories on Being Naked and Surviving in a Lifeboat appeared first on I'm Just Thinkin'.

Have you ever had this feeling?

It’s the “my Church is way more awesome than your Church” feeling.

If you’ve found a Church that you love, Hallelujah to that!!

I’ve been to a few different Churches, and have nothing bad to say of those that I was a member at previously.

I like to go to different Churches when I’m traveling. Sometimes it’s a good experience, and other times… well, let’s say I’m reminded about what I love about my Church.

But that’s just me and not to say that the other Churches aren’t great places. There are people at the Churches that I didn’t really connect in that love them. And that’s a great thing.

Then there are those people who go but really don’t connect at their Church, and those who don’t go because they don’t like “Church.”

Church can be a turn off if you’re in the wrong place. The Church is considered the Bride of Jesus. And the body of believers makes up the Church.

If you are a believer and don’t like your Church, or don’t go to Church… pray to God to guide you to the right place. It’s also a great place to connect with like-minded people who share your values and beliefs. And people who you can do life with.

And the grudge thing… hmmm, well, when we get to heaven there isn’t a Church… we’re all just one big happy family. So let it go, man, let it go!!

What do you or don’t you like about Church?

The post The Church Grudge first appeared on I'm Just Thinkin'.

The post The Church Grudge appeared first on I'm Just Thinkin'.

I got plowed by a Mack Truck when I was a little boy. At the tender age of 5, while cautiously walking Running a couple of short blocks from school, I carelessly ran right in front of a Mack Truck. Fortunately, the truck driver saw me, slammed on his breaks, and came to a screeching halt just as we made contact. I was knocked to the ground, barely scratched but completely terrified (as was my mom who came running out of our home to see what all the commotion was about).

Needless to say I have been much more cautious about crossing the street ever since then and am proud to say I haven’t been hit by another Mack Truck since. I guess I do still live on the edge whenever I run, especially crossing Southside Boulevard. And The Running of the Bulls is on my bucket list. That’s probably about as intelligent as running in front of a Mack Truck.

My point here is that I learned a valuable lesson from the Mack Truck incident…

“Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance.” Proverbs 1:5

And I’ve been able to learn sosososo much from my plethora of other life experiences too. Not to worry, the book is coming. It reads like fiction, that crazy!! Hoping it might sell like Blue Like Jazz 🙂

Do you have a life experience that you could say you’ve learned a valuable lesson from?

The post Mowgli and the Mack Truck first appeared on I'm Just Thinkin'.

The post Mowgli and the Mack Truck appeared first on I'm Just Thinkin'.
