Memories I savor:

Eating out of a coffee mug for my first week in Venezuela after dropping my only plate (I'd just returned from the store with it and the bag slipped out of my hand while I was trying to push the elevator button at my apartment building). I was just grateful it wasn't the eggs I heard breaking.

My first Massachusetts snowfall. Sure, I had to dig my car out from under two feet of the white stuff, but it was still a wonderful experience actually being on the scene for all that picturesque precipitation.

Commencement for my master's degree. We had the founder of Monster.com as our speaker, and he definitely livened up the ceremony. He had us yelling stuff on cue and waving our hands in the air. Most fun I've had at any graduation event ever.

My brother's wedding to his second wife. Having married too young and divorced, he'd said he would never marry again. But then he met a wonderful Greek girl and dated her for several years, finally proposing at Christmas. At the wedding the following May, he started to cry while reciting the vows he'd written, and so did the rest of us. It blessed me to see my brother in love again. It also cracked me up when he looked back at me during the ceremony and directed me with a hand signal and his eyes to get a picture of his bride's gown and train. The boy's getting married and trying to run a photo shoot at the same time! Too funny...

My youngest brother's attempt to thwart a burglary not long after we moved into our current house (he and I rent from our parents). It was late night, and I was feeling peckish, so I went to raid the pantry just off the kitchen (adjacent to the garage). I didn't turn on any lights and was making my snack run in total darkness. My brother heard noises, so as I exited the pantry, I was met by a large hooded figure making menacing sounds intended to scare an intruder. Instead, I burst out laughing and asked him what in the world he was doing. Gotta give the boy points for trying, though - he thought someone was breaking in, and he was going to take care of it.

Lol! It's been a while since I flew, but that Southwest spiel sounds familiar...

The last time I was in one of their winged sardine cans, the pilot followed the attendant's speech with this directive to his coworkers: "Alright, y'all put your tush on a cush so we can push."
