The power of prayer is real! I love my small group now, very diverse and meaningful. I also have a prayer group (private) on FB, they're such a blessing!

Thank you for sharing Carol, you always have something good to contribute and I appreciate that!

Ouch! Tough subject.

I was raised in the church as a pastor's kid so didn't have to go through that as much although finding a church "home" as an adult was sometimes a challenge.

The bigger shock was going through the commitment to joining a small group. We didn't have such a thing in the denomination I grew up in. But it's been such a treasured blessing to be part of a small group; praying with the same 8-10 people every week for 10 years. Wow! That's a good shock.

Ahhh yes, another excellent post inspired by Andy Stanley!

We're all on the learning path, that is funny in a way about the "4 gospels" and Jesus having to die 4 times. Funny in a way, but I think once is enough. Talk about humility... what He did for us. I'm thankful!

Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing here TC! :-)

Yours isn't the first blog I've read lately about "church shock". I think it's something many Christians are thinking about- how to make church more welcoming to "outsiders". Not changing the message of the cross, just how we talk and relate to newbies.
I even did a post on this topic about a month or so ago.

Now to answer your question, yeah I've experienced church shock. I grew up in church so you'd think I would know about the 4 Gospels all telling basically the same story of Christ's time on earth, but I didn't . Instead, when I first started actually reading the Bible I thought "poor Jesus" had to come and die 4 times! I just couldn't understand why He did that when other parts of the Bible stated that He died once for all. I was confused, did He die once or four times? I was so embarrassed when I asked that. Thankfully the person I asked was kind and didn't laugh as she explained the Gospels to me.
