How Writing A Book Proposal Will Help You Develop Your Book Project

“Everyone has at least one book in them” – CV

Yes, I’ll say it again (lol… like Andy Stanley)… everyone has at least one book in them.

I have the nuts and bolts of at least four book ideas, including an e-book that I’m targeting to give away on my blog in August. It doesn’t really matter if you have 1 or 4 or more, the point I’m trying to make is that anyone can write and publish a book today. Self-publishing has really opened this up. If you are passionate about writing I would encourage you to go for it!

This post is just a collection of thoughts that I wanted to share that may help you along the way…

A Thank You, On Golden Pond, And Random Thoughts About Writing

Breathtaking views... a big cup of joe... and scrambled oatmeal = inspired!!

Today I wanted to say thank you…

It was two years ago this month that I started this gig… so I wanted to say thank you in appreciation to everyone who has followed my journey and offered endless encouragement and support. It has been an interesting and exciting time in my life… and I know that the best is yet to come :-)

I’m in the midst of “learning the process” on putting together my first book… (you can read more about this book here). Not completely sure that my books are going to be published but really enjoy writing. This is very exciting… the feedback that I’ve received is very encouraging… I’m a little behind my self-imposed schedule (and very much at peace with this)… and at the same time I’ve realized that this writing gig is way more complicated that I thought it would be. I’m not really sure what most others think about authors… my perception was a little off before I dove into this venture… I guess I though of it a little like hanging out all day writing… I am pretty verbose at times so that part is easy (not quite like Tolstoy :-) )… then I found out that, as a new author, I have to bring part of the audience with me… to run with the big boys… and that I’ll be using many other business and life skills that I’ve picked up along the way.

Hanging out writing… I mean, why can’t I just take a weekend off from life and shack up in tranquility… On Golden Pond with a big cup of joe and some scrambled oatmeal (my own personal recipe) and hammer out a book or two? Surely that’s what Lucado does, since he is publishing a book a week (or so it seems to me anyway).

There is way too much information on the internet and elsewhere to read and absorb. What makes mine stand out? Why should anyone stop by to read I’m Just Thinkin’? There are lots of folks working the internet right now… my presence, while I am on “learn as you go” mode, is pretty well defined… you can read more about my why here.

I wanted to share with you some of the most important resources / thoughts that I’m picking up on along the way…

This blog thing is sort of the proving ground… where I find out what ideas are going to fly… where I can hone in on them… where I am building an audience… where I’m making important connections… networking…

Two of the most significant resources that I have run across are Michael Hyatt’s blog and Christian Writers. I’m also involved in a new community group, it’s called “My Killer Tribe” … looking very fruitful!! If you are a writer, these are worth checking out.

I’m finding there is a limit to my creativity… that I can keep coming up with new goodness… only because I find material to write about through my daily walk… but there is a limit… when my creative energy is scattered into other areas of my life, my writing here at I’m Just Thinkin’ is scaled back.

If you’re a writer, what are some of the most helpful resources that you have identified on the internet?

What writing projects are you working on at this time?

How’s It Going?? A Double-Fist Pump Kind Of Day

cowabunga-lujah Saddington and Hyatt Rock!!

It was just over a year ago that I won a free copy of Standard Theme, responding to a prompt on a guest post written by John Saddington at Michael Hyatt’s blog. I’m very thankful to John and Michael. That was a double-fist pump kind of day!! I guess I must have said something right (that time :) )… and followed their advice to focus on writing writing writing content, not getting too hung up on the minor details of glitz and glamor (call my blog frumpy, go ahead!!).

So how’s it going at the one-year milestone? Well, I’ve thought many times I’ll surely run out of material to write about… it seems that’s what happens to many blogs. Amazingly, I have more ideas that I have time to write! And I feel like an old yard-bird chicken, having only scratched the surface with my skinny legs.

I am picking up on a few things along the way…

Why Flock with 600-Million Gregarious Peeps?

There’s more good than bad to be had on Facebook but like so much of the world we live in today it is what we make of it.

I started flocking on facebook to find old friends. That was fun, to see what they’re up to and share memories from the past. Then I added relatives. It’s much easier to remain closer to everyone within my 4 circles than I would be able to without FB. Next I thought I would world wide witness on there, and that has been very fruitful and enjoyable. Since many of my business contacts are also personal friends I added these people to my network and that has brought us even closer. Finally, I started getting serious about writing and found another use: publicizing my writing and growing my network to include folks that I would otherwise probably not connect with.

Next I found I needed this thing called Twitter, you know, that place where the narcissists are followed by the voyeurs (just kidding, that’s not what it’s all about!). Michael Hyatt, who’s blog I follow regularly, pointed out that we shouldn’t repost from our blogs, while some of our best material lies buried in our posts of the past. So my Twitter account is a convenient way to repost, plus it shows up on my Facebook page. Then I got the clue about Twitter, that people actually use it to spread the news about what they’re up to, that I can be branded and use both Facebook and Twitter to build a community. So now I tweet random thoughts about my passions and  writing, which can be quite a few since I am ALWAYS thinkin’. This is all fairly outgoing for a fellow who was so shy as a little boy his mom called him “the mouse!”

Why do you (or do you not) flock?

When God Says… Ye Shall Twitter!

Twitter… I never thought I would be there but on the good advice of Michael Hyatt I’ve added a Twitter account. You can find me here…

Why? Well, it seems that I can’t repost my material on I’m Just Thinkin’ the way I thought I could. At least not without getting penalized by Google. So I have to get my Twitter on.

What do you think about Twitter?

Humble Pie

2 months into this blog-o-sphere and thought I would try to reflect on it for a moment…

Is it still fun? Yep, very much so. It’s flowing from God and it is fun and still effortless. Think of me as just a messenger, trying to carry out His work and help build up His community.

Trying to keep it upbeat, positive and inspiring: Everyone you meet is fighting some sort of battle… hoping this place is helpful… for all of us!

There are lots of ideas running through my head that I don’t write about, trying my best to stick to the subject matter, or categories, and follow the wisdom of other bloggers that lead in how it’s done, like Michael Hyatt, one of my personal favorites.

I do glance at the statistics on the visitors and can see there are a lot of folks reading it, not a bunch of comments, but folks from all over the world are reading and coming back for more – very humbling to know that!

To my friends that have encouraged me to do it: I’m very thankful. On with the blogging…
