Book Review and Giveaway: “Embracing Obscurity” by Anonymous

Embracing Obscurity… WoW, a book written by “you don’t know who”… Anonymous… Strange? Actually, perfectly fitting for this masterpiece!

I received a pre-release copy to review, it was just released yesterday and is available now. This book is a reality to every follower of Jesus… that we’re nothing in comparison to Him, and that we need to selflessly follow Him. And here’s the best part: the book accomplishes this in a way that is relevant to our world today… and with a tone that makes me want to follow… and rock on!

Does this all sound strange to you?

Well, you’ll probably find it even stranger that I tell you half way through the first chapter my bone-chilling thought… that God actually sent this book to ME!!! Like I needed it… maybe we all do. I certainly hope that you will pick this one up, it’s a must read for EVERYONE. This book is like that sermon we walk into and have that gee wiz feeling the Pastor must have been reading our mind…

This book is chock full of wisdom…

“One of the greatest ironies of all time is that when we give up the hope of earthly fame and fortune, and instead embrace the obscurity of a life given in service to Christ, we are immediately touched with immortality and assured of eternal glory.”

That stuff moves me… here’s one more…

“Have you ever had one of those moments? A split second when the enormity of humanity pounds you into a pea-sized lump of insignificance? An occasion when a crowd leaves you feeling a little disillusioned and more than a little irrelevant? If not, look for one. As uncomfortable as is the prospect, unimportance is good for the soul.”

Yep, good for the soul…

Check up on me later…

I’m going to go get lost in Obscurity now…

What does the word “obscure mean to you? Is it positive, or negative? What do you think of when a person is referred to as obscure?

OK, time for the giveaway… leave a comment below to this post to win a free copy of the book, straight from the publisher. I’ll do a random drawing on Friday, October 5th.

Hi Chris, whenI think of being obscure for God, frankly I think of my band. Within the ministry we play for (Celebrate Recovery) popularity is neither the problem or the goal. But we want to take our music out into the world and it seems that most of the times when we get an opportunity for some exposure and have the chance to plant seeds, we continually hit a stumbling block that kills those chances. It rarely happens at CR though. My thoughts are that His plan for us is to use our musical talents for CR only and if we get too much external exposure (become less obscure to the rest of the world) we could potentially lose focus of His plan which we all agree is better than our own even if we don’t recognize it yet.
